What can the recent NCAA conference shake-ups mean from a brand perspective? Can USC Football replace Texas Longhorn football? For one thing, the conferences don’t understand that great brands are about the customer and not the organization. It also means the conferences are so isolated they don’t even represent higher learning anymore.
The “new” conferences have turned their backs on all learning. Take the study of geography, for instance. We know know, based on the Pac-10, that the states of Texas and Colorado are now on the Pacific Ocean. We also know the Big 10 and Pac-10 universities no longer teach basic math anymore.
Maybe this is what they mean by the new math.
